Evaluate the impact of climatic oscillations and global change on the ecosystems of Patagonia from past, present and future times. Within the framework of the Environmental Monitoring line, the work carried out by CIEP is fundamentally based on generating baseline information on the structure and functioning of the Patagonian ecosystems as well as the generation of scientific-technical knowledge relevant to the decision-making process of the own activities of the public services and the private company. In this sense, having knowledge of environmental fluctuations and their possible impacts on ecosystems provides: Technical, objective and organized information so that public bodies can design warning, management and prevention measures against environmental fluctuations with the primary objective of minimizing social and ecological impacts in a scenario of global change. Ability to efficiently inform the productive system of environmental changes to favor the strategic planning of the industry in a changing world. This Laboratory proposes to equip the region with human capital for the improvement of environmental monitoring and to transfer its products (information) to society. The critical tasks to perform are: Develop a system of integration, organization and centralization of environmental information. The adaptation and increase of the environmental observation network. Develop the necessary infrastructure to provide regular, consistent and validated data flow for different users. Generate information for the refinement of predictive models.
